Ubuntu’s Hardy Heron for the Desktop

Ubuntu Hardy HeronJust wipe the ‘ol drive clean and install fresh!

My upgrade to Hardy Heron from Gutsy Gibbon the other day didn’t take too well. I was constantly fighting it seemed to keep things running, having to click things twice in order to get them to load, Firefox 3 Beta didn’t want to work with most of my plugins/addons and Firefox 2 didn’t want to work with Thunderbird. Not what I was expecting but seeing as I had backups for all my important files, A clean install was my next best option.

After making sure that all my important files were backed up and current, I whipped out my trusty copy of gParted and wiped the ‘ol drive(s) clean and got things ready for 8.04 HH.

The clean install went better than the upgrade did which bode well for me this time around as I had been reading where the upgrades weren’t exactly taking too well on some other users machines. I figured that my luck would be better with the clean install and I was right.

Once it finished and I re-booted, all I had left was to add the apps and programs that I had before (plus a few that I found in the repositories), move my files back over from the external hard drive and setup Thunderbird and Firefox 2.

Now I can settle in and play around with things a bit to get Ubuntu’s HH just how I’ll like it.

For anyone else out there that is having some trouble with the upgrade version….try backing up your files and give a clean install a try. It just may be your lucky ticket too! )
