Go Daddy testing the waters?

Seems the domain name registrar, Go Daddy, has been testing the pricing waters in anticipation of the upcoming increase in registry prices on October 1 of this year. My bet is the increase to $15.19 dropped their new registrations and add-on sales for .net and .org domains quite a bit which in turn led them to drop them back down to $11.19 each including fees from the $15.19.

First they shoot up to $13.19 each. Then they shoot up another $2.00 to $15.19. Now, they’re back down again. Sure looks like price testing to me alright. Wonder how many registrants moved their portfolios because of this?

Other domain registrars have started sending out notices about price increases. The wholesale cost of .com domains will increase 7% on October 1.

Time to check the status of your domain registrar providing you don’t have one of those “Free for Life” primary domain name deals with your web hosting provider. If so, you should be fine.
