A lot of people are looking to the web for their shopping needs these days. It’s become a convenient, much more secure way to shop from the relative comfort of one’s home or office and to top it off, it keeps you out of the maddening crowds in the holiday season. That is of course unless, you like being in the maddening crowds during the holiday rush. If so, this post isn’t for you my friend.

That’s the best way I can think of to lead into this update on the Star Wars Costuming Group here in Alabama that recently updated their website and forums. I had a small part in this epic production but I’ll take that as I am a fan of the Star Wars movies and games. Well, I’m a fan of pretty much anything Sci-Fi actually.
As I had previously posted about here and here the folks at the AL501st here in Alabama had decided to rework things on their site to make it more user friendly, interesting and graphically pleasing to the eye. Not to mention much easier for them to keep updated themselves. Admittedly, updating the site themselves was a priority as their calendar can change fast. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s a sore point of contention that we still aren’t ready for what may come after the horrendous attacks by terrorists on September 11, 2001, but we’ll not soon forget that fateful day when 2 airliners crashed into the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center, killing all aboard as well as thousands in the buildings and on the ground below when the Towers collapsed. The deaths of the brave firefighters, police and other emergency personnel also contributed to this most horrible of attacks on this soil to date.
Nor will we forget the passengers and crew of the airliner that crashed to the ground just shy of the Pentagon. They too will be remembered. Read the rest of this entry »

Seems the domain name registrar, Go Daddy, has been testing the pricing waters in anticipation of the upcoming increase in registry prices on October 1 of this year. My bet is the increase to $15.19 dropped their new registrations and add-on sales for .net and .org domains quite a bit which in turn led them to drop them back down to $11.19 each including fees from the $15.19.
First they shoot up to $13.19 each. Then they shoot up another $2.00 to $15.19. Now, they’re back down again. Sure looks like price testing to me alright. Wonder how many registrants moved their portfolios because of this?
Other domain registrars have started sending out notices about price increases. The wholesale cost of .com domains will increase 7% on October 1.
Time to check the status of your domain registrar providing you don’t have one of those “Free for Life” primary domain name deals with your web hosting provider. If so, you should be fine.

Just read this on Dave Zan’s Domain Name blog and thought it fair to spread the word to those who may want to get ahead of the increase. Read the full story on Dave’s blog post below.
